productive entities (first example)

The above posted scheme is the start of a flow chart of activities related to the shrimp business. We (Devangi and Sahdia) have related the direct and supporting activities as they occur in Khulna and simultaneously we have looked at the flow on the national level (e.g. transport).

This chart will be completed by adding a drawing of the regional and local flow of goods as well as the persons involved in the process (men, woman and children, settlements).

The aim is to develop similar charts for jute, brick, wholesale/ retail… related activities.

Comments/suggestions are welcome.

Sadhia, Devanghi,

The flow chart is clear at first sight. Also the annotation Formal to Informal woks rather well.

Nevertheless I think the chart is a little dry now. It could help to show some quantitive information in the scheme. For example, you could size the boxes according to the number of people in that branch of the production. Also the arrows could have a width according to the amount of shrimp going from one to the other, or color each arrow in the degree of formality that you annotated below.

Another thing I am missing a little bit is spatial information. Each of these actors claim certain types and amounts of land. Can we show this too? Karen started to include this a little bit in her diagrams of the process of shrimp/jute factories. That seemed a good start.
